My one and only sea going trip on Manxman took place in 1981. I was a lively crossing so much so that I lost the content of my stomach over the side of the ship. From that day forth I was terrified of sea sickness so it somewhat surprising perhaps that I became involved in the campaign to save the ship in 2002.
I was approached by Ships of Mann magazine with a view to setting up a website to gauge interest in saving the ship. In October 2001 we launched our first site which became the precursor to the Manxman Steamship Company which was formed in May 2002. For the next 6 years we fought to try and save the ship. We had many adventures along the way but ultimately changing circumstances meant that the ship could not be saved. The home we wanted for her on the Mersey simply wasn't available.
In June 2010, the ship was broken up in Sunderland after all attempts to save her failed.
